What do your adoption fees cover?

Before adoption, your CKR cats/kittens will be microchipped and spayed or neutered. They will be up to date with vaccinations but will still need to have a wellness check within 90 days (most kittens will still need their rabies vaccine). Cat Kids Rescue will also register your microchip.

How often do you receive new cats/kittens?

Almost every day!

Where do your cats/kittens come from?

Our cats come from all over - shelters, rescues, strays. We help every cat we can!

How much time do I need to spend with a kitten or cat?

As much time as you can. It is ideal to spend two hours a day socializing and playing with your cat/kitten to ensure they receive adequate attention and stimulation.

Is it ok to let my cat/kitten outside?

Your adoption contract states that your cat/kitten will live indoors. Statistics show, indoor cats live longer, healthier lives.

I rent, can I still adopt a cat/kitten?

Yes. Though you will need to provide a copy of your lease and receipt of paid pet deposit.

Can I declaw my cat/kitten?

No. Your adoption contract states you will never declaw your cat/kitten. This is cruel and unnecessary.

Frequently Asked Questions - Fosters

Can foster parents adopt their foster cats?

Absolutely! Let CKR know if you plan to adopt your foster, once the cat is healthy and spay/ neutered, you will go through the same process as our other adopters.

How much time do I need to spend with a foster cat?

As much time as you can. The amount of time will vary depending on the energy level and needs of the cat you are fostering. It is ideal to spend two hours a day socializing and playing with your foster cat/kitten to ensure that he or she receives adequate attention and stimulation.

When is my foster cat ready for adoption?

If your kitten is healthy, they will be ready at approximately 8 weeks as long as they weigh 2 pounds for their spay/neuter surgery. Sick cats will be adoptable once they are healthy and have finished with all medications and treatments.

Can I let my foster cat/kitten play with my personal pets?

This will depend on the health of your foster. While foster cat/kittens playing with other pets is often fine, we advise that you consult with your veterinarian before fostering to ensure that all of your personal pets are healthy and up-to-date on all vaccines. Cats/kittens in shelters are very susceptible to illness and can carry or catch different diseases. If, for any reason, your personal pet becomes ill while you are fostering a CKR cat/kitten, we cannot provide medical care for your personal pet. Important note: If your personal pet is allowed outdoors, he or she cannot interact with your foster. Foster cats/kittens are typically more at-risk for illness and we need to limit that risk by not exposing them to anything from the outdoors.

What if I know someone who’s interested in adopting my foster?

That is awesome! If someone you know is interested in adopting the cat/kitten, please contact CKR as soon as possible. Once the cat/kitten is up for adoption, we cannot hold them for anyone.

Will it be hard to say goodbye to my foster?

Saying goodbye can be the most difficult part of fostering. Keep in mind, you are playing a crucial role in helping to save cats in need. There are many more cats and kittens that will need wonderful foster homes like yours.

Who will take care of my foster if I need to go out of town?

Before you accept a foster into your home, we ask that you look ahead to make sure you will be around the entire length of their stay. If an emergency arises, please contact CKR asap.

What if my foster is not working out?

If you feel it’s not working out, you are not required to continue to foster. However, we may not have an immediate alternate foster home or space for the cat/kitten. We will work on moving your foster out as soon as possible, but ask for your understanding and patience. Please call CKR immediately if this situation arises.
